Eat this: New Menu Items at Taverna Rossa

Taverna Rossa is a popular destination for pizza, patio views, and drinks in Plano. Since its opening in 2012, they've made a name for themselves among Collin County residents with their signature thin crust gourmet pizzas, craft cocktails, beer selection, and crave-worthy salads.

A few new food and drink items have just been added to the menu.

Cocktail-wise, you must hurry to quench your summer thirst with "Mr. Sandia" (insert description from IG). There's also a new fruity tiki drink, a kiwi cooler, and a coffee based after dinner libation.

On the edible side of things, the Orzo Caprese small plate impresses, with fresh summery flavors, a bright cashew pesto and aged balsamic mixed with chilled orzo and Maldon sea salt.

Salads are actually a really enjoyable experience at Taverna Rossa, and that's for sure not something you'll hear from me very often. I've even come to TR just to order a salad before. All of their salads are available in two sizes. The Nutty Grape features mixed greens tossed with prosciutto, red grapes, goat cheese, and a pistachio-white balsamic.

Before our media dinner, I had never tasted anything entree-wise other than pizza at Taverna Rossa. I'm partial to the Bees Knees and the Wild Shrooms & Kale varieties,-!: it's pretty hard to get me to order anything else when there's good pizza on the menu. However, in the future, I might expand my dining boundaries there because both of the pastas we sampled were quite tasty. The Chicken Parm en Fuego's homemade ghost pepper marinara sauce makes it a dish to be reckoned with for avid spice-seekers. Non-spicy eaters might find the Pesto Greek Pasta quite appealing, cavatappi with spinach cream sauce, red peppers, kalamata olives, artichokes, baby heirlooms, pesto, and feta.
A fine option for those avoiding meat.

The newest pizza on the block at Taverna Rossa caught my eye (or my stomach) as soon as I saw it on the menu. The Al Pastor pie comes topped with a roasted tomatillo habanero sauce, pork chorizo, onion, tequila-caramelized pineapple, and mozzarella with a drizzle of lime cream and cilantro. A new pizza for the Best of Plano lists to be sure. Like a taco atop a pizza, this pie blends the best of two drool-worthy worlds.

With new (and old) options like these, who can say no to heading to Taverna Rossa for their next #datenightnokids or family outing?
